The Android 2.3 update for the Samsung Galaxy S would come in mid-April. Now reports from xda-developers that has some users successfully updating their Hummingbird-equipped handsets. It’s a limited roll-out, benefiting the Nordic countries, Holland and Germany first, but we doubt Samsung will hold out on the rest of Europe for much longer. If you want to try your luck, boot up your Kies updating utility and pray to your nearest tech deity.

The first benchmarks of Samsung’s Galaxy S II with a 1.2GHz processor are rolling in. The Galaxy S II pulled off an amazing 3,053 on a Quadrant benchmark. Those scores also represent a more than threefold improvement over the original Galaxy S.

Back in the days of MWC, the LG Optimus 3D scored 2,958 but Samsung looks to be upping the ante with its own Exynos 4210 CPU at 1.2GHz. Of course, these are purely synthetic benchmarks and may not translate into an equally improved experience in day to day use.

I had heard a good news and bad news for those waiting for a Samsung Galaxy S II. The company’s Estonian office has confirmed through their Facebook page that the CPU will be upgraded from 1.0GHz to 1.2 GHz. The update brings the Samsung Galaxy S II to the top of the Cortex-A9 class, in pure computing power. The bad news is that it seems you’ll also have to deal with a bit of a delay. Samsung India has tweeted that the phone’s global launch has been delayed by “at least” a month.

The latest figures disclosed by the company, show that the Galaxy S will hopefully touch the 10 million units, if the demand rate continues to remain stable this Christmas holiday season.

The Samsung Galaxy S launched in July and has been one of the most successful handsets from Sammy. Samsung says the phone will be upgraded to the Android 2.3 Gingerbread very soon.

The Galaxy S started life running Android 2.1 mobile operating system and has been given a 2.2, FroYo update with the 1GHz Hummingbird processor, 4-inch Super AMOLED display, 5-megapixel camera and currently awaiting a 2.3, Gingerbread overhaul.

The device has named “Optimus 2X”, codenamed SU660, which looks almost identical to the LG Star.

The Optimus 2X will be launched within a couple of months and it would come with a Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, 1080p video recording, HDMI-out and 4-inch display.
