How to untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 on iPhone3GS, iPhone4, iPad1, iPod touch 3G, iPod touch 4G

It’s just a few weeks since hacker pod2g revealed his untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 devices. The exploit has been incorporated into redsn0w 0.9.10, the Pwnage Tool and Chronic Devteam’s Cydia package, and supports all devices with the exception of Apple A5-toting iPad 2 and iPhone 4S. That means the iPhone 4 GSM, iPhone 4 CDMA, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 4th generation, and original iPad (iPad 1) will be getting in on the untethered action.

If you already have a tethered jailbreak on your iOS device, simply head to Cydia and install the Cydia package prepared by the chronic devteam called Corona Untether 5.0.1, your jailbreak will be untethered.

For those who are jailbreaking for the first time, here’s the step-by-step on how to untethered jailbreak your iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS running on iOS 5.0.1 using Redsn0w.

Download Redsn0w 0.9.10b2 for Windows from this link or Redsn0w 0.9.10b2 for Mac from this link.
Download the iOS 5.0.1 firmware file.
(Skip this step if you’re on iOS 5.0.1 already) Connect your iPhone to the computer, launch iTunes, select your iPhone and hold down Shift and click the Restore button. Select IPSW file to install IOS 5.0.1 to your device. Wait until installation process is complete.
Extract the Redsn0w zip file to the Redsn0w folder and launch the Redsn0w application (Windows 7 you may want to try running the redsn0w executable mode as an administrator).
Click on the “Jailbreak” button.
Turn off your IOS device and plug the device into the computer then click the Next button.
You will now need to put your device into the DFU mode. Redsn0w will now guide you through the steps to get into DFU mode. You can find more help with DFU mode below:
(a) Hold the Power button on iPhone down for 3 seconds.
(b) Now simultaneously hold the iPhone and keep the two buttons pressed for 10 seconds.
(c) Now release the Power button while keeping the Home button pressed until Redsn0w detects the device.
After that your device will now reboot, then RedSn0w will now prepare the jailbreak data.
Select Cydia from the list of options and click Next.
Your device will now be rebooted again and RedSn0w will begin uploading the new RAM Disk and Kernel.
When complete you will be notified that RedSn0w is done, your device will be jailbroken with Cydia.

Apple IOS 5 jailbreak software – Redsn0w 0.9.8b1 released

It didn’t take long for a jailbreak of IOS 5 to be released, now Redsn0w 0.9.8b1 has been released for Mac users. The latest IOS 5 was jailbroken within 24 hours after Apple announced it at its WWDC conference. A member of the developer team showed pictures of IOS 5 running the Cydia application. The jailbreak is tethered only, so you’ll have to plug back into your machine each time you need to reboot.

Redsn0w 0.9.8b1 is available now for Mac user only, you can download via the Iphone Dev Team blog. The software also supports the Ipod Touch 3G and 4G, Ipad 1 and Iphone 3GS and 4.

Greenpois0n untethered iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak released

The Chronic Dev Team just recently released the latest version of GreenPois0n jailbreak tool that allows you to jailbreak the iOS 4.2.1 firmware on your iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 4G, iPod Touch 3G, and iPad without requiring SHSH blobs for iOS 4.2 b3 — you can finally reboot the device without having to re-jailbreak.

The jailbreak tool is available for Mac, Linux, and Windows. This version is new and I haven’t tested it myself yet, but from what I am hearing there may be a few problems with the utility so you might want to wait a while before using it.

You can download the zip file for your system at greenpois0n.com, but be warned that the site is extremely slow in response to all of the downloads.
